A common observation from this year’s Cannes Film Festival positioned sidebar titles well above the ritzier, awards-driven competition section, a frequent player in such arguments being Jordan Firstman’s Club Kid. And unlike many films that debut in the south of France one May and might, if we’re lucky, make a stateside appearance through marginal means, the actor’s feature debut is not long in waiting: A24 will release Club Kid on November 6 afrer stops at TIFF and NYFF, and ahead of this comes a first trailer.

As Rory O’Connor said in our Cannes review, “For fans who’ve followed Firstman’s career from Rotting in the Sun to I Love LA, this duck-to-water move behind the camera will come as a welcome surprise. It’s notable that the movie opened in Un Certain Regard, a sidebar the festival’s programmers have often used as a testing ground for movie stars looking to try their hand at the tiller for the first time. The difference with Firstman’s confident arrival is that it feels less the work of a dilettante than a natural.”

Here’s the synopsis: “A hard-partying New York City club promoter sees his whirlwind lifestyle upended by the arrival of the 10-year-old son he never knew he had.
