These days, it can be hard for any series to really break through to audiences. So, when one manages to capture attention, it's the sign of a project that's truly fantastic. Apple TV's Margo's Got Money Troubles_**, adapted from the 2024 Rufi Thorpe novel, premiered back in April and has already been connecting in a major way with viewers. With a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score, the miniseries continues to gain new fans who want to follow along with Margo Millet's (Elle Fanning) journey. Now, its most recent episode has proven that Margo's Got Money Troubles is even more of a must-watch than we previously thought.
'Margo's Got Money Troubles' Shifts to a Brand-New Genre in Episode 6
From the very first episode, it's easy to see that Margo is a tough cookie. She gets pregnant after an affair with her married college professor and is quickly thrust into unexpected motherhood while also trying to prop up her mess of a mother, Shyanne's (Michelle Pfeiffer). Margo quickly realizes that she needs to make ends meet, especially in a job that won't require her to find childcare for her baby. What she comes up with is the creation of an OnlyFans account that she's able to quickly turn into income to support herself — but that's just the beginning of Margo's complicated life. After ex-wrestler father, Jinx (Nick Offerman), resurfaces, Margo struggles to maintain her online presence despite her judgmental mother and Shyanne's new religious husband, Kenny (Greg Kinnear).

The first five episodes of Margo's Got Money Troubles** **_have focused on Margo's push towards survival, but Episode 6 shifts to a brand-new genre as its lead embraces her OnlyFans persona in an entirely unique way. Margo is inspired to create a character called HungryGhost, an alien who arrives on Earth without any knowledge of how things work on this planet. The episode opens with a futuristic scene of a giant green Margo projected on a movie screen for her subscribers. Later, it becomes clear that this is one of the scenarios that Margo herself has written and filmed as her HungryGhost character. With assistance from Jinx and her loyal roommate, Susie (Thaddea Graham), Margo starts to create elaborate, non-sexual sequences with her OnlyFans collaborators, KC (Rico Nasty) and Rose (Lindsey Normington), and that quirky creativity sparks a massive following — as well as her first mega-viral moment.
'Margo's Got Money Troubles' HungryGhost Scenes Add New Depth to the Show
Watching Margo create her HungryGhost persona would be fun enough, but there's an exciting switch-up that occurs in Episode 6, as the series depicts Margo's inner world in a way that allows viewers more insight into how her brain works. Margo has shown promise as a writer, and even though it initially seemed like her professor was trying to seduce her with compliments about her writing, he just might have been telling the truth about her potential. Getting to see Margo explore her artistry also adds more layers to her relationships with the characters around her; Jinx and Susie even get in on the action, too, helping her with choreography, costumes, and special effects. The HungryGhost sequences themselves also provide the series with a hint of a different genre. Instead of zeroing in on the harsh realities of being a young, single mother, the HungryGhost scenes play with a fun, sci-fi-style energy, and it almost feels like you're watching a different show compared to the first five episodes.

By embracing a sci-fi bent, Margo's Got Money Troubles_ feels like a brand-new iteration of itself. It also helps the show add a jolt of excitement with just a couple of episodes left. Of course, there's never a dull moment in Margo's life, and the episode ends in a shocking cliffhanger with her baby daddy threatening to take full custody of Bodhi — but the switch to a focus on the creation and cultivation of her HungryGhost character levels up this sleeper-hit series into an even more electric viewing experience**.
