Impact of U.S.-Iran Conflict on Wynn Resorts’ UAE Casino Project
Wynn Resorts’ $5.1 billion casino project in the United Arab Emirates, known as Wynn Al Marjan Island, will face a “modest delay” in its opening timeline due to ongoing political tensions in the U.S.-Iran conflict. Originally slated to open in the early part of 2027, supply chain disruptions and security risks in the region have delayed the project for an unknown period.
Wynn Al Marjan will be the first casino in the UAE and is a massive project undertaken by Wynn Resorts to enter the Middle East market. There are already many amenities and extras planned for the casino, such as a museum-caliber art collection and a world-class culinary lineup. The development includes 1,500 luxury hotel rooms, a 20,900-square-meter casino, and an upscale marina.
The property aims to attract millions of visitors, boost the local economy, and establish the casino as one of the most luxurious in the world. But all of that is on hold as the uncertainties in the region caused by U.S. military operations continue to affect the American casino company.
Supply Chain Disruption
Most of the delay owes to supply chain disruptions caused by the closing of the Strait of Hormuz.
Construction has faced delays, with materials rerouted. In some cases, crews have had to acquire alternate materials. Higher construction costs were always a risk for Wynn Resorts. But recent events have caused them to swell beyond projections.
Construction on the site, with its 22,000 workers, continues despite the supply chain disruptions. But the logistical challenges have still created the need to postpone the opening timeline.

Security Concerns From Iranian Threats
Even beyond the supply chain logistical disruptions, there is a real worry for security in the UAE at the moment. Missile and drone attacks from Iran have threatened the UAE, with the country’s air defense ministry saying it has had to rebuff such advances. The volume of attack threats has been increasing recently and has also threatened nearby Kuwait and Qatar.
There is no telling how long the conflict will continue, and as long as the threats against the UAE exist, potential travel to the UAE for a new casino resort would no doubt be curtailed. Wynn Resorts will almost certainly hope to open after the threat is long past.
