There’s a myth that top professional golfers don’t hit the gym. Yes, there have been some exceptional players who skip workouts — including legends like John Daly, Miguel Angel Jimenez, and Jack Nicklaus — but in today’s professional golf field, fitness is crucial. The best example? Current World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
Scheffler recently opened up about his training history and current routine while highlighting the Nike equipment he uses in the gym. “[Fans] don’t see the behind-the-scenes work: early mornings, late nights, and everything I do at home to compete on Sundays,” he says.
A turning point for the recent Master’s runner-up was losing the finals at the 2021 WGC Match Play. Scheffler told his trainer he lost that tournament because he was exhausted, leading to a ramped-up endurance routine during the offseason. And it worked: Scheffler won the following WGC Match Play.
Just like it is on the course, Scheffler’s equipment selection in the gym is essential. Nike currently offers 16 pieces of “Scottie’s Equipment,” some of the gear that Scheffler uses to stay in peak physical condition.
Plus, you can pick up several pieces of workout apparel that Scheffler uses.

It’s a shame how many gym-goers are still wearing running shoes or regular sneakers. Purpose-built workout shoes, like these Metcon 10s, offer the proper amount of responsiveness and support for lifting and other gym movements. These ones do it with a Hyperlift plate that gives you a planted feel — great for big moves like squats and deadlifts — and a lightweight feel for more high-intensity work.

Workout tops are another piece of gym equipment that some skip for whatever old shirts are in their closet. This one, worn by Scheffler, is great because it’s versatile enough for lifting, running, yoga, or any other sweaty activity. It’s comfortable, breathable, and sweat-wicking, and it doesn’t look overly-technical (so you can wear it to coffee after the gym).
