A film franchise is meeting a new streaming service as another sequel is set for release later this year.
Since the rise of sequels in the late 20th century, film franchises have dominated Hollywood, with giants like the Marvel Cinematic Universe grossing over $31 billion, Star Wars_ surpassing $10 billion, _Harry Potter _earning $9 billion, and James Bond bringing in over $7 billion. Now, a rather modest $1.1 billion franchise is coming to Netflix.

With a new sequel set for release later this year, the Focker__ _**franchise is coming to Netflix. The comedy franchise follows the titular Greg Focker (Ben Stiller), who suffers a series of unfortunate events while meeting his girlfriend's parents, and in the sequel, hell breaks loose when their parents meet each other for the first time.
Now, over two decades after their theatrical release, Meet the Parents (2000) and Meet the Fockers (2004) are officially coming to Netflix on May 1. Both movies are currently streaming on STARZ.
Meet the Parents also stars Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, Teri Polo, James Rebhorn, Jon Abrahams, Owen Wilson, Phyllis George, Kali Rocha, Nicole DeHuff, Thomas McCarthy, and Mark Hammer, while Meet the Fockers introduces Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, Tim Blake Nelson, Alanna Ubach, Ray Santiago, Shelley Berman, Spencer Pickren, Bradley Pickren, and Cedric Yarbrough.
Meet the Parents received positive reviews, resulting in an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics calling it a sharp and funny take on family dynamics, largely thanks to the strong chemistry between its two leads, despite occasionally feeling like a sitcom. It also has a 79% audience score.
On the other hand, Meet the Fockers received negative reviews, resulting in a 38% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics claiming that the sequel rehashes jokes from its predecessor rather than offering anything new. It has a 58% audience score.
However, both movies were big hits at the box office. Meet the Parents made over $330 million worldwide against its $55 million production budget, the seventh-highest-grossing movie of 2000. _Meet the Fockers _made more, over $522 million against an $80 million budget, and was also the seventh-highest-grossing movie of 2004.
Another sequel, Little Fockers, was released in 2004, with the three films earning over $1.15 billion at the box office.
Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers are coming to Netflix ahead of the fourth film, Focker-in-Law, releasing in theaters on November 25. Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Blythe Danner, and Teri Polo are reprising their roles from the previous films, while Ariana Grande, Skyler Gisondo, and Eduardo Franco join the cast.
