Dark Souls Trilogy Remake Leaves Gamers Seriously Torn

The** Dark Souls_** trilogy is hallowed ground among FromSoftware fans, and while there have been several re-releases and enhancements for all three games over the years, there's never been an official ground-up remake for any entry in the series, let alone the entire trilogy. That's why it came as a bit of a surprise to gamers who saw a recent leak suggesting that a full Dark Souls trilogy remake is in the works.

Gamers are completely divided on the topic of a Dark Souls remake, pointing to "controversial" remakes like Demon's Souls from the now defunct Bluepoint Games as an example of where things could go awry, despite that very remake often being hailed among other fans as how remakes ought to be done.

One thing is clear, a Dark Souls trilogy remake isn't going to be universally loved among FromSoft fans—that is assuming it would ever happen in the first place.

Last Sunday, May 3, a somewhat notorious leaker called Shirrako posted an ambiguous message on X suggesting that Dark Souls_ could be getting a full trilogy remake. While the post appears to have been made as a somewhat innocuous joke, various outlets reported on the "leak" as if it were legit, sparking a wave of emotion among players.

While there doesn't seem to be any credence to the Dark Souls trilogy rumor and Shirrako has a history of what many would consider trollish behavior or "rage bait" antics, it has ignited an interesting conversation among fans about whether there's any merit in an official remake of Dark Souls 1–3. I don't think this is a good idea," says Maher, while RileyTaugor disagrees, arguing, _"Of course [people] gonna hate, but this could be very cool." _

When it comes to a Dark Souls trilogy remake, many fans are simply wondering why it's necessary at all given the original games "hold up fine today" (Kyron Schwab). Velez, on the other hand, falls somewhere in the middle, arguing that Dark Souls 1 and 2 could use an upgrade, remaster, or remake, but Dark Souls 3 doesn't really need it.

And then, of course, there are fans who only have one FromSoftware remake in mind that matters, and are taking this conversation as an opportunity to beg for the official Bloodborne remaster that is almost certainly never going to happen either.

Ultimately, fans who are against the idea of a Dark Souls_ trilogy remake don't have anything to fear since the original post that started the commotion is more or less confirmed to have been made in jest. For those who got their hopes up on the matter, a Dark Souls remake doesn't seem very likely at this point, especially given FromSoftware's posture on Bluepoint Games' remake of the iconic Demon's Souls for PS5 (via Reddit).

For now, FromSoftware seems focused on the road ahead, with the release of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition_ and The Duskbloods for Nintendo Switch 2 on the near horizon, and while a Dark Souls** remake may never happen, there's plenty to look forward to as a FromSoft fan.
