Capping off a remarkable career, Luchino Visconti’s final film _L’Innocente _was released in 1976 to much acclaim. For its 50th anniversary, a new 4K adaptation of his adaptation of Gabriele D’Annunzio’s 1892 novel starring Giancarlo Giannini, Laura Antonelli, and Jennifer O’Neill, will now be rolling out in theaters. Ahead of the December 11 release beginning at Film Forum, the new trailer and poster have arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: “Set in aristocratic Rome at the turn of the 20th century, wealthy and self-absorbed nobleman Tullio Hermil (Giancarlo Giannini) carries on an affair with a sophisticated yet possessive widow, Countess Teresa Raffo (Jennifer O’Neill), while treating his devoted wife, Giuliana (Laura Antonelli), with cold condescension. Wounded by his years of neglect, Giuliana takes a lover of her own with young novelist, Filippo (Marc Porel). When she becomes pregnant with Filippo’s child, Tullio’s wounded pride cannot be contained, setting off a chain of events leading to ultimate tragedy.”
