Everytime Teaser: Sandra Wollner’s Unforgettable Cannes Winner Sets February Release
Among the most staggering, unforgettable experiences one can have in a theater this year is Sandra Wollner’s Everytime, a drama about loss that skirts seemingly every convention one might want to pre-emptively box it into. Impeccably shot by _Aftersun _DP Gregory Oke, the Un Certain Regard winner, three-time Gotham Award nominee, and German Oscar entry will now get a one-week, awards-qualifying run beginning next week at NYC’s Film at Lincoln Center ahead of a February 12 release. In advance of the roll-out, 1-2 Special has now debuted the first teaser.
Here’s the synopsis: “On the eve of a family vacation, a shocking tragedy disrupts the lives of Ella (Birgit Minichmayr), her younger daughter Melli (Lotte Shirin Keiling), and their teenage family friend Lux (Tristan Lopez). One year later, after drifting in a state of suspended grief, the trio reunite and embark on a trip to Tenerife, hoping to recreate the family holiday that never happened. Under a strange new sun, they find that the past, present, and future begin to overlap.”

Rory O’Connor said in his Cannes review, “In Everytime, a sun-dappled film about death and love that might be the best in Cannes this year, the terrible loss of a teenage girl’s life leaves her mother, younger sister, and boyfriend bound in mutual devastation. Set in present-day East Berlin during the balmy months of the year, this is a film that appears at first to be drawn from the same Berlin School approach as Christian Petzold and Angela Schanelec, but there’s little of that cohort’s minimalism or literary melancholy here. No need to know that the DP is Gregory Oke for one’s mind to gradually wander to Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun—another movie about how the worst things still manage to happen regardless of the weather.”
