More than 120 Indian filmmakers and producers have come together to form the Independent Filmmakers Association of India (IFAI), a not-for-profit collective aimed at enhancing theatrical access, distribution pathways, and streaming visibility for independent cinema in India. This initiative seeks to address the challenges faced by the country's indie film sector.

The IFAI made its formal public debut at the Cannes Film Festival, signaling a significant step for independent filmmakers in India. By uniting under this collective, members aim to create a stronger voice and advocate for better opportunities within the film industry, both domestically and internationally. The formation of this association highlights the growing recognition of the importance of independent filmmaking in India’s diverse cinematic landscape.
