Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 8
Following the explosive finale of Daredevil: Born Again_** season 2, it's possible that Bullseye could end up becoming a replacement for a major original Avenger. Since his debut back in Netflix's Daredevil season 3, Benjamin Poindexter (Wilson Bethel) has more than proven himself to be one of the MCU's deadliest assassins. However, the events of Born Again season 2 may very well see him operating in a more redemptive light than ever before.
In the midst of Bullseye's twisted sense of morality, Born Again season 2 saw Bullseye attempting to make up for the lives he took while manipulated by the Fisks, seeking to achieve "one good deed to balance the scales." For Poindexter, this meant killing the Fisks. Although he succeeded in killing Wilson Fisk's wife Vanessa, Bullseye was ultimately saved by Daredevil, who showed Poindexter mercy despite everything he'd done.
It was this act that likely led Bullseye to help Daredevil with a true "good deed": keeping the governor safe when Mayor Fisk sent his men to take her out before she could move against him. Now, the ending of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 8 sees Bullseye receiving a brand-new purpose in the MCU, one that could heavily mirror a key Bullseye arc in the original comics.
After Daredevil: Born Again Season 2's Finale, Bullseye Is Now Working For Mr. Charles (And Val)
_
The ending of Daredevil: Born Again_ season 2 featured the surprise return of Luke Cage. Reuniting with Jessica Jones and their daughter Danielle in New York, Cage is no longer working covert overseas missions for the CIA's Mr. Charles and his superior, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. According to Cage, Charles found a replacement. Sure enough, the following scene sees Bullseye on a plane with Mr. Charles, clearly implying that Poindexter will now be a government-backed operative in the MCU's future.
Keeping that in mind, this new role sounds remarkably similar to the early operations of the MCU's Thunderbolts before they all came together in their 2025 MCU movie, eventually becoming the New Avengers.
Excluding Red Guardians and Bucky Barnes' Winter Soldier, each of them worked for Val as enhanced operatives doing various off-the-books black ops missions. As such, it certainly seems as though Bullseye is the latest recruit, someone Val and Charles more than likely need, seeing as how several of their past assets just became publicly recognized heroes. Sure, Val was going to kill them all anyway at the beginning of Thunderbolts*, but that's beside the point.
With Poindexter originally being an agent of the FBI, it makes sense that he's likely seeking new stability and structure with Val, Charles, and the CIA. Furthermore, Bullseye working for Val also means that there's now an exciting parallel between his arc in the MCU and one of his most famous arcs in the original comics.
Valentina Finally Has Her "Dark Hawkeye" With Bullseye (Mirroring The Comics)
In the comics during and after the events of the first Civil War and Secret Invasion, Bullseye briefly joined the Thunderbolts before eventually becoming part of Norman Osborn’s Dark Avengers, operating as that team's version of Hawkeye, purple costume, bow, and all. Despite remaining one of the Marvel Universe's most deadly and psychotic assassins under the mask, there was a brief period of time where he was at least being presented and perceived as a hero by posing as Hawkeye.
The MCU's Bullseye has posed as heroes before (he dressed as Daredevil in Netflix's third season). However, it's doubtful that the MCU will adapt the comics so directly. Even so, it stands to reason that Val now has her "Dark Hawkeye", just like John Walker was her "Dark Captain America" and Yelena Belova was her "Dark Black Widow". Even The Sentry could be considered a "Dark Hulk/Thor" hybrid.

01 Matt Murdock was blinded as a child by radioactive material that fell from a truck. While he lost his sight, the accident gave him something extraordinary in return. What did the radioactive exposure give Matt?
ASuper strength BTelepathy CSuperhuman radar-like senses DX-ray vision
✓ Correct! The radioactive chemicals that blinded young Matt Murdock simultaneously supercharged his remaining senses to extraordinary levels and gave him a radar-like spatial awareness. He can “see” the world around him through sound, smell, touch, and taste with superhuman precision — making him one of Marvel’s most unique heroes. ✗ Even Daredevil’s radar sense couldn’t find the right answer there! The answer is superhuman radar-like senses. The radioactive accident didn’t give Matt strength, telepathy, or X-ray vision — it heightened all his remaining senses to superhuman levels and granted him a radar sense that lets him perceive the world around him in 360 degrees.

02 Daredevil’s greatest enemy is a massive, calculating crime lord who controls most of the criminal underworld in New York City. This villain is known by his real name and his title. Who is he?
ABullseye BWilson Fisk / The Kingpin CThe Hand DThe Owl

Their battle is deeply personal — both men believe they’re saving Hell’s Kitchen. ✗ Even Daredevil’s radar sense couldn’t find the right answer there! The answer is Wilson Fisk / The Kingpin. Bullseye is a deadly assassin, The Hand is a ninja organization, and The Owl is a lesser crime lord. But the Kingpin is the definitive Daredevil villain — the immovable force that controls New York’s underworld from the shadows.

06 Elektra Natchios is a complex character in Daredevil’s life — sometimes lover, sometimes enemy. She is a deadly assassin trained by a mysterious ninja organization. What is the name of this organization?
AThe League of Shadows BThe Hand CHYDRA DThe Foot Clan
✓ Correct! The Hand is a secretive ninja organization that plays a major role in Daredevil’s mythology. Founded centuries ago, they deal in assassination, mysticism, and resurrection. The League of Shadows is from DC’s Batman universe, HYDRA is the broader Marvel villain organization, and The Foot Clan is from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (actually inspired by The Hand). QUESTION 7 / 8COMBAT
07 Frank Castle, the Punisher, has a complicated relationship with Daredevil. They share a mission to fight crime but disagree fundamentally on methods. What is the core philosophical difference between Daredevil and the Punisher?
ADaredevil uses weapons, Punisher doesn’t BDaredevil refuses to kill, Punisher kills criminals CPunisher works with police, Daredevil doesn’t DDaredevil only fights at night
✓ Correct! This is the defining tension between Daredevil and the Punisher. Matt Murdock, a devout Catholic and lawyer, believes in the justice system and refuses to cross the line into killing. Frank Castle believes the system is broken and that lethal force is the only way to permanently stop criminals. Their rooftop debate in Season 2 of the Netflix series is one of the greatest scenes in superhero television. ✗ Even Daredevil’s radar sense couldn’t find the right answer there! The answer is that Daredevil refuses to kill while the Punisher kills criminals. It’s actually the Punisher who uses weapons (guns, explosives), and neither works with police. Daredevil fights at all hours. The real divide is moral: Matt believes in redemption and the law, while Frank believes in permanent, lethal justice.

QUESTION 8 / 8TV SERIES
08 In the Daredevil Netflix series, Vincent D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Wilson Fisk was widely acclaimed. In Season 3, Fisk manipulated a specific FBI agent to become the new Bullseye. What is this character’s name?
ARay Nadeem BBenjamin Poindexter (Dex) CBrett Mahoney DMitchell Ellison
✓ Correct! Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, played brilliantly by Wilson Bethel, was an FBI agent with a troubled past and an innate ability for perfect marksmanship. Fisk recognized his psychological vulnerabilities and manipulated him into donning a Daredevil suit to frame Matt Murdock, setting up Dex’s transformation into the classic villain Bullseye. ✗ Even Daredevil’s radar sense couldn’t find the right answer there! The answer is Benjamin Poindexter (Dex). Ray Nadeem was another FBI agent manipulated by Fisk but in a different way, Brett Mahoney is an NYPD sergeant allied with Daredevil, and Mitchell Ellison is the editor of the New York Bulletin. Dex is the one Fisk groomed to become Bullseye.

Are you the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen — or just a blind spot?
↻ TAKE THE STAND AGAIN
While she might have her hands tied with the New Avengers and their influence over her show at the end of Thunderbolts*_, it's clear that Val is still running various covert operations, presumably both in the service of Val's own interests with O.X.E Group and the world at large.
Whether Bullseye eventually joins a Dark Avengers-inspired team in the MCU or simply becomes one of Val’s most dangerous new operatives in the shadows, the pieces are in place following Daredevil: Born Again season 2. The MCU may not be replacing an original Avenger in any official or public capacity, though it certainly looks like the MCU is creating a terrifying dark equivalent all the same with Bullseye's new role.
