Rambo Prequel Movie Teases "Entirely Original" Story

Sylvester Stallone** has given us some amazing movies like Rocky_, Escape Plan, Cliffhanger, The Expendables, and Tango & Cash. The action icon has always been equally active in front of and behind the camera, and his writing is as cutting-edge as his high-stakes action sequences that excite millions of fans around the world.

Rocky**,** which became his breakout role, was also his brainchild. The emotion behind the quintessential underdog story is so strong that the franchise lives on with Creed _spin-offs, which are fronted by Michael B. Jordan. Another Stallone character that has found a new life is Rambo. Starting with _First Blood, we followed the iconic character on his long, perilous journey over five films, and now a prequel film, John Rambo, is on the horizon.

The upcoming prequel stars Noah Centineo as the titular hero and is helmed by Sisu director Jalmari Helander, with Stallone himself on board as a producer. John Rambo has wrapped filming, and all the details are kept tightly under wraps. Nonetheless, Lionsgate film head Adam Fogelson told Business Insider about “electric” footage he has seen. "The footage Jalmari has shot is extraordinary; it's the best version of what I thought might be possible," Fogelson said. He further explained:

** "At this point in my career, it's kind of rare for dailies to blow you away. You can be really happy, or you can say, 'Oh no.' It's rare for it to be electric. These dailies are electric**."

‘Rambo’ Prequel Will Honor the Original

The prequel, co-written by Rory Haines and **Sohrab Noshirvani, **will tell the story before First Blood, getting into the legendary character's trauma, not just the mythology. Further praising Centineo’s performance, Fogelson said, "It is a prequel, but when you see him as this character, it simultaneously feels entirely fresh and yet has all of the nostalgic residue that you'd want," Fogelson said.

Rambo is unarguably loved for his stoicism, loner, and drifter tendencies, and for being the perfect action hero. Stallone played him with a lot of layers, the basis of which is his trauma. Fogelson further assures fans’ will understand what made him so, "You're going to understand the character that you eventually meet in the subsequent films in a way that feels both entirely respectful of what was created previously and entirely original at the same time." Along with Centineo, the movie has also cast David Harbour, Yao, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White, and Tayme Thapthimthong.
