Stake launches in Mexico for World Cup expansion
Stake has launched in Mexico as it expands its territory in Latin America ahead of the upcoming World Cup. Stake has made inroads into Colombia and Peru, but the expansion into Mexico might be the betting company’s most significant foray into Latin America to date.
The platform will be stake.mx and will allow players in Mexico to access the site.
Stake director Jarrod Febbrario stated that Mexico was an obvious choice for expansion and a huge opportunity to move into a country of 130 million people:
Mexico is an important and exciting market for us – one that combines strong underlying growth with a deep cultural connection to sport, which aligns perfectly with what Stake is built for.
World Cup a Big Chance For Stake
The timing of the launch coincides with the upcoming World Cup joint hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada. Establishing a presence and foothold in Mexico before the World Cup matches begin is an obviously transparent motive for Stake as each match will garner the betting attention of millions in the soccer crazy country.
Febbrario outlined the World Cup’s importance:
With Mexico set to co-host the 2026 football World Cup tournament, the timing of this launch reflects our ability to move with precision into high-value markets at the right moment.
你的牌池已经在用了,你呢?
Elsewhere in the soccer world related to Stake, retired Belgian star player Eden Hazard got into hot water with the Belgian Gambling Regulator after promoting Stake on his social media.
In February, there was talk of Mexico considering legislation to curb gambling ads specifically ahead of the World Cup, which could, in theory, land a Mexican player in the same hot water that Hazard found himself in if they were to promote Stake.
Does Stake.MX Have Poker?
Due to geoblocking, it is impossible for Americans to access stake.mx to check if poker is available. But a quick glance at the site before it gives the geoblock message shows a blue section for casino and green one for sports.
On stake.us, the same green section is labeled as poker rather than sports. This likely indicates that stake.mx does not have poker like stake.us does.
